About Us

The Black Horse Tavern opened its doors years ago on August 9th and is still the premier tavern in the Winchester Area! Featuring a blend of casual tavern food, drink and specialty dishes, the Black Horse Tavern is sure to provide an authentic pub dining experience.

The tavern was always a dream for life-long Winchester resident James Covino. Six years in the making and his dream has been an abundant success. Coupled with his wife Kim's passion for great cuisine and cooking, the two's journey to open Winchester's first pub-style eatery has been a pleasurable and rewarding experience. The Black Horse Tavern, being the first eatery of its kind, has satisfied Winchester's need for a restaurant that offers high quality and affordable cuisine.

The Covinos' vision was to have the tavern rooted deeply in the Winchester community just like its namesake, the original Black Horse Tavern built in 1724. Historically located on the corner of Black Horse Terrace and Main Street, the tavern was demolished in 1892. It was an important meeting spot for soldiers during the Revolution as well as a place for townspeople to gather.

Today, the Black Horse Tavern pays homage to the original with a comfortable, welcoming decor and a fantastic menu. Consisting of traditional tavern food and specialty dishes, the Black Horse Tavern is a great place to enjoy a sports game at the bar, a special dinner out, or an easy and fun family dining experience.
